I am so thankful for dads. I have worked with too many kids who don't have a dad or dad figure in their lives, or a maybe not a stable one. It really is sad to hear what some students share about the men in their lives. Our kids need strong, kind, responsible men leading them! Especially our boys. I am so thankful my own children have so many men in their lives who love them so well. Along with their dad, whom they look up to in so many ways, they have three grandpas, uncles, older cousins, teachers, coaches, and family friends who have been great influences.
We had a nice day today. Over the years, we haven't usually spent Father's Day with my own dad! There's usually something organized with Timm's family over the weekend, we like to give Timm his own day, etc. But this year, we changed all that. Saturday, Kayleigh spent the first half of the day taking the ACT test. That evening Timm and I went out with friends of ours for a "date night." We had a nice dinner and listened to a band we had seen before and enjoyed. It was a nice night out. It's nice to be able to have a night out and know the kids can take care of themselves at home!
Today we went to church and then headed down to see my dad and stepmom. We took them out for lunch and spent the day catching up (including introducing them to Siri and the fun functions of the iPhone!) We tried to plan the annual "Camping with Grandma and Grandpa" trip for this summer, but every year the schedule gets busier and busier, so we're still working on that!
Today's visit was a great treat for all of us.
