Kayleigh has dreams of being an author. She loves everything about books. I can't tell you how many times I have had to threaten to remove all the books from her room because she was supposed to be cleaning up or making her bed and was, instead, distracted by a book. She has had some terrific teachers who have encouraged her in her writing. Last month, her teachers, Mrs. Schmid, and her gifted/talented teacher, Mrs. Stahler, encouraged her to enter a contest sponsored by Reading Rainbow for young authors and illustrators. She had to write a 500 word story and complete at least 5 illustrations to go with it and put in together in a "book."
Today, at a school assembly, she was presented with a certificate of achievement from Reading Rainbow, and the school had taken her entry and made it into a bound "book." They are going to keep another copy of it in the school library for students to look at and teachers to check out and use in class as a writing sample.
We are so proud of her!!!!!!!
P.S....It was Hawaiian Day! :o)
